Spring

by L F Anderson and D D Ames - 1974

The snow is melting from the earth
Lilies pushing through the ground
We sing the song of springtime
Grass becomes green all around

The Robin looks around for a home
Redbirds chirp and bluebirds sing
Birds build their nests to call their own
As they form melodious songs of Spring

Peace reigns in the land, the whole world over
Fresh sweet rain comes falling down
Bees buzz around the sweet red clover
As the world is washed from its Winter frown

I truly love this time of year you see
I'm quite certain that God does too
For if it were up to me and me alone
I'd make Spring last the whole year through

Tramp

by L F Anderson and D D Ames - 1974

We acquired a dog one day
We simply named him Tramp
We never thought of calling him
Fred, or Skippy, or Scamp

A common dog, medium size and friendly
We found him walking the streets one day
Just looking for food, shuffling along
We showed him affection, he had found his way

We fed him good, a delicious hot meal
It made him feel safe and warmed his bones
He stretched out in front of our fire
It appeared he had finally found a home

We could never have found a friend
So loving, so true, so loyal and nice
Even if we had searched north and south
East and west, on low, on high

His name wasn't proper, we didn't care
He had no papers, he had no pedigree
We loved him dearly from the start
He made us so happy, hearts filled with glee

We could have called him Pal or Prince
Or even named him Squire or King
His love for us was on display from the start
And he was as loyal and true as anything

The name didn't matter, not in our world
This dog had a heart, goodness from above
Tramp showed us many things when alive
The most important being his unconditional love

Thoughts Dreams and Memories

by L F Anderson and D D Ames - 1970

I like to write a story
I ask no thanks or glory

The words that come from this pen of mine
Are loving, happy memories of a different time

Many thanks to each; even not knowing,
Who provided a word or story, some help in showing

Their precious tales of years gone by, I'll not forget
But will pass them on with love and little regret

Dear Grandpa Ernie

by L F Anderson and D D Ames - 1971

A man small in stature
Hands rough and worn
Labored and toiled from
The day he was born

He worked in the fields,
As his fathers before him,
His outlook was bright
Not cloudy or dim

He lived a long life
Filled with much joy and sorrow
Married at nineteen
They shared many a tomorrow

Minnie, his bride, only seventeen
Gave him so much joy and pleasure
Married sixty-five wonderful years
She was his love and treasure

They raised nine children
Six boys and three girls
It is without a doubt
Their life was a whirl

Many times were good
Some times were bad
They lived every moment
With whatever they had

Three children were lost young
Two sons and a daughter
Gone to live forever
On Gods pure blue water

His greatest loss in life
Was in nineteen sixty-seven
When God called his dear wife
To come live with Him in Heaven

His later years were lonely
Yet his faith was mighty
He happily joined his wife
At the glorious age of ninety

They were the beginning
Of many generations to come
And they now are at peace
In their Heavenly home

We should never feel sad
When God comes to call
For Ernie and Minnie
Were truly loved by all

What Once Was

By L F Anderson and D D Ames - 1975

The manger there once filled with hay
Today shows dust, age, and decay
The haymow with a smell so sweet
Is evidence of farmers and their wheat

Stalls are empty where horses once did rest
After a long day of work doing their best
They plowed the fields and pulled the wagon
Doing hard work all day and never lagging'

A stanchion rests where cows once stood
Giving fresh milk that turned out so good
Shingles are loose, boards are rotten
Portraying the times now long forgotten

A child once ran barefoot down the lane
With dust on his feet, hoping for rain
The barn stands alone, so solemn and still
While weeds grow tall upon the hill

Its better days are long in the past
Many good times we knew could not last
The barn today is old, dark, and dreary
It mirrors our lives, to age I'm quite leery

I sit and ponder, so active it its day
The people, the fun, the folly of our way
I long for the time of how it had been
Now just a stranger in search of a friend

Can You Feel it?

by Darrell Ames

Like running through a darkened tunnel at full speed
They look, they touch, they kiss, they love, they make
Hearts caught in their throats, unable to swallow
There’s nothing so attractive when each other they take

“This is serious” she says as she embraces his love
He nibbles her neck “It’s new to me” he replies
“It’s almost surreal” she sighs as she lays before him
“You’re so sweet and beautiful” gazing into her eyes

How are they so lucky to meet and share such pleasure?
They wonder what it would be like if they hadn’t met
“It doesn’t matter” they say, they are together now
Amidst the goose bumps, chills, sexy talk, flirting, and sweat

They roll their eyes in ecstasy as they share the deepest kiss
“Oh, it’s like that?” she questions, teasing him with delight
“Yes pretty lady” he tells her as he cradles her in his arms
Their lovemaking is passionate and real and runs through the night

Care Bear

by Darrell Ames

I search in vain to understand why my beautiful child is gone
So sweet, so fun, so much energy, full of so much love
A shooting star with so much life, a hug and smile for all
She brought joy to many, in every setting she fit like a glove

Words cannot express one's grief when a loved one dies
Especially when a parent loses a child so kind and so dear
Downs, Hawaii, California, Manhattan, any place she graced
The masses were blessed whenever Care Bear was near

The pain and the sorrow will endure, no way to replace her
But with that comes much joy and laughter as we recall
Her crazy antics that had us saying "OMG" and "Wow"
The Bear lit  us up, made us smile, was loved by all

She leaves a void in our hearts, but we're at peace
Knowing she was always thinking of us, always there
We're still in shock, so surprised, the pain so severe
We will always love you Carrie Ames, our sweet loving Bear

Hearts in Tandem: A New Beginning

by Darrell Ames

They’ve had their ups and downs it’s true, their goal still untouched
Two hearts still focused on happiness and unconditional love
A rocky beginning, some misunderstandings, not enough to waiver
Their beautiful romance seems etched in stone and blessed from above

It might seem rare for two people from totally different backgrounds
To find each other in the 50th by way of the four corners of the world
But not really when you consider the intense attraction and affection
They share and they way their love for each other has unfurled

Their busy lives whirl around them as they go through their routines
She interacts with so many and brightens the days of all she can
He moves from meeting to meeting and does his best to serve
They stay in touch during the day, sending love and affection, as they planned

Their lives are engaging and full, yet they live for each other
They are devoted to each other and their hearts are pure, a love so sweet and caring
They look forward to the years ahead, the good times outweighing the bad
They are of course in love and it’s a beautiful future they are sharing
