The manger there once filled with hay
Today shows dust, age, and decay
The haymow with a smell so sweet
Is evidence of farmers and their wheat
Stalls are empty where horses once did rest
After a long day of work doing their best
They plowed the fields and pulled the wagon
Doing hard work all day and never lagging'
A stanchion rests where cows once stood
Giving fresh milk that turned out so good
Shingles are loose, boards are rotten
Portraying the times now long forgotten
A child once ran barefoot down the lane
With dust on his feet, hoping for rain
The barn stands alone, so solemn and still
While weeds grow tall upon the hill
Its better days are long in the past
Many good times we knew could not last
The barn today is old, dark, and dreary
It mirrors our lives, to age I'm quite leery
I sit and ponder, so active it its day
The people, the fun, the folly of our way
I long for the time of how it had been
Now just a stranger in search of a friend
